The Director of Public Prosecution has ordered that an inquest be held into the stabbing death of 27 year-old Ebron Innis, called ‘Mango Man.
On March 5, 27 year-old Innis of Sophia succumbed to a stab wound which he sustained to his chest during a foiled robbery.
This newspaper was told that the man, Tony Yong who inflicted the injury to Innis was taken into police custody but was subsequently released. Following the post mortem examination and several statements which were taken from Yong as well as eyewitnesses, a full report was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution. Based on the information provided to the DPP’s Office it was recommended that an inquest be held.
Initial reports are that on the day in question, Yong was walking in the vicinity of Demico House when Innis and another man reportedly confronted him.
Eyewitnesses said that Innis who is also known in the area as ‘Mango Man’, drew a knife and he tried to relieve Yong of a cellular phone and his valuables. However, Yong reportedly drew a larger knife with which he attacked Innis, while the accomplice fled.
The injured Innis managed to run a short distance before collapsing.
He succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
