Residents of ‘D’ Field Sophia made a gruesome discovery early yesterday morning when the body of a woman was fished out of a canal along the main access road.
The woman, who lay face-up in the canal, has been identified as Nerbert Issacs Bacon, a Special Constable who was attached to Magistrate Fazil Azeez’s residence in Kitty.
She was clad in a green t-shirt and blue denim skirt. There was a red bicycle in the canal near Bacon’s body.
Many speculated that the woman’s body had been in the location for more than two days.
According to reports from the area a curious lad made the discovery and alerted residents.
This newspaper was told that the boy saw a bicycle in the trench and decided to investigate when he saw the woman’s decomposing remains.
“All we see is dis lil boy start running and screaming so people ask he is wha happen and is then he tell we that a woman deh in de trench,”.
Residents told this newspaper they were doubtful of the lad’s story but confirmed that the lad’s story was indeed true.
The police were immediately called in.
“If she de ride overboard with de bicycle it wouldn’t deh stand up straight up like dat. Somebody put da bicycle deh.”
The woman’s face bore what appeared to be lacerations from a sharp instrument.
Meanwhile, undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Home were subsequently called to remove the corpse, which is now awaiting a post mortem examination.
Persons in Sophia who had converged on the scene were all clueless as to who the woman might be.
“Even if she get knock down, dat person throw she in the trench but then again the bicycle ain’t look like it get no damage.”
This newspaper understands that Bacon and her husband were in the courts over a domestic dispute.
The woman who has been married to the man relatives say was called “Evo” for about five years.
But their domestic problems escalated to the point that she was forced to have a restraining order put in place against him.
He was forced to move out of the matrimonial home about five months ago but lived with his sister close by and is said to have been issuing several threats recently to the now deceased woman.
Issacs-Bacon who was described as a quiet christian was last seen alive on Thursday.
She leaves to mourn her 19-year -old son along with other friends and relatives.
Police have so far not been able to locate her husband.
