– Event to continue today once weather permits
Rain cancelled Day One of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) National Youth and Junior Championships yesterday with Day Two set to commence today once the weather is favourable and there is no more rain in Georgetown.
The host venue of the event, the Police Sports Club Ground, was waterlogged in some areas yesterday following overnight and morning rainfall in Georgetown. The track and field areas were still ready for competition and were not flooded.
“The ground is not soft; it is still hard but there was some water-logging in some parts on the ground, so we decided to let that blow off instead of softening the ground further, and return tomorrow (today) for the second day,” AAG President, Colin Boyce indicated.
The association, which had added a few senior events to this weekend’s programme, may consider pulling those events to reduce the amount of unnecessary events. The Championships are to act as the basis for selection on the CARIFTA Games team.
