Mar 13, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to Harry Gill’s letter (Kaieteur News, 12-03-11) captioned, “Berbicians are better off today and Freddie knows it.” Mr. Gill would like to know the definition of some of the words I use in my writings, in particular, “bennettitaceous” which I have employed on three previous occasions in my columns.
That word appeared in the caption of my piece last Friday. After the general elections this year, I will explain its meaning.
I chose this path out of fear for my life. We are living in dangerous times in this country where power has been put to irrational usage
Mr. Gill may want to know what “gillaroo” means. I guess I owe him an explanation for the term is included in the caption of this letter.
I do believe Gill thinks he is a gilaroo but he is not. When I was at Mc Master University, I had a close Irish friend and his family often made gillaroo for me. It is an Irish trout with an extremely hardened stomach.
When mollusks run into the stomach of the gillaro they die instantly. The word here is used in the context of an argument being so solid that it cannot be demolished.
But Gill’s continuous points are blunted and his polemics are more like porridge than the stomach of the gillaroo
I have ceased to reply to people like Joey Jagan and Vishnu Bisram. I have better things to do with my limited time. I may include Gill in this category.
I think I will stop my replies to Gill because I find his assessments highly unintellectual and definitely childish. Here is just one example of his polemical mediocrity and I must confess they are irritating.
He says that Trotman and Ramjattan of the AFC are too inexperienced to run the Government of Guyana.
But in the same breath he cites the achievement of PPP Ministers all of whom, with the exception of the goat-ain’t bite meh Minister, Mr. Rohee, were less experienced than Trotman and Ramjattan.
What the PPP Ministers have achieved we are still to see Gill enumerate. But this I can tell Gill; if the PPP Minister can achieve a few things in Government so can C.N. Sharma
Let’s come to the letter in question. Gill who lives far away from Guyana says he has no idea when last I visited Berbice.
The commonsensical thing to do is ask. I am not going to get into an argument with an outsider about what happens in the country I live in. Now that is an absurdity one should avoid like the plague.
Suffice it to say that I meet more Berbicians on a daily basis than Mr. Gill. The newspaper I write for has two Berbician correspondents. I have academic colleagues that teach at the Berbice campus of UG, I have friends in the opposition parties that visit Berbice often. And finally, I have friends who live in Berbice.
I prefer to be guided by them on what goes on in Berbice than a man whose evaluations are one-sided, propagandistic, unintellectual and to make it worse who lives thousands of miles away from Berbice
As to my description of people who are stupid and idiotic that Gill objects to, then I think if other humans in this world do not know that there are people out there who are indeed foolish creatures then they themselves are stupid and idiotic.
Here are some examples of such creatures: People who riot and kill each other over a football match. People who think Gaddafi is worth fighting for. People who think women are inferior to men. People who think one race is better than other.
People who would kill each other in the name of racial superiority. People who wage war on others in the name of religious superiority.
People, like a Parliamentarian in Uganda, who want the death penalty for homosexuality. People who love to sex under-aged children. People who would send their daughter to sex with an officer just to get a visa.
Trust me Harry Gill, I have seen and met such foolish and idiotic people.
The world is full of them. Of course the are people that are so moronic that they would vote for their own oppressors
Let me tell you something Harry Gill. The US Embassy put out a statistic account of how many persons from this land legally leave for the US – 14 a day.
That doesn’t include backtrack and the exodus to CARICOM territories and Canada.
Here is the shocker Harry that will mentally paralyze you thus we may never hear from you again. The majority comes from Berbice.
When last were you in Berbice Harry? It had to be 20 years ago because Berbice resembles a ghost town.
I don’t believe you Harry when you wrote you were in Berbice less than a year ago. You have a runaway imagination.
By the way, thanks for the findings of the survey you did way out in the US that Guyanese here do not take me seriously.
Did you commission Vishnu Bisram to do the poll?
