Race walkers extend activities to Region Two
Having dominated the race walk track in Georgetown, Soesdyke, Melanie, and Linden among other places, National Race Walk champion Rudolph Mitchell will take his exploits further afield when he travels to the Potaro/Sipuruni Region to compete in an event organised by the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) slated for the Easter weekend, April 23-25 next.
The walkers will convene at the Supernaam Stelling for the long trek to Charity Pomeroon where the race culminates. A release from Public Relations Officer (CSTC), Maria Nelson disclosed that race walkers from several Caricom as well as North American countries will compete in the event. Those include Canada, the United Kingdom, USA, Suriname, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago among others. Further, the CSTC has identified several persons to comprise a planning committee that will oversee the smooth organising of the race. “The event would serve as a boost to local sports activities but more particularly race walking,” said Ms Nelson.
Meanwhile, the PRO is once again making a spirited appeal to the Government for support towards the development of the sport. She is also issuing a similar appeal to the corporate community since the absence of such support would stymie the efforts of the CSTC executives who are working assiduously to provide worthwhile activity for local race walkers.
