The University of Guyana Tain Campus (UGTC) defeated defending champions Faculty of Technology (FOT) 2-1 and secured a place in the semifinals when action continued in the University of Guyana Inter-Faculty Football competition at the Georgetown Football Club Ground Tuesday evening last.
This follows an earlier 11-0 victory by the winning team over a combined team from the Faculties of Natural and Health Sciences. The winners experienced difficulties at the start of the match after FOT had dominated the opening forays of the contest but lacked the finishing touches. This became apparent by the middle stage of the first session when UGTC settled into a rhythm to counter a disorganized showing by their opponents. Erwin Crandon started the ball rolling with a double before lemon time to take his tally to eight goals.
The defending champions, obviously struggling with fitness issues, saved some face with a lone goal off the boot of Urson McKenzie after the Berbice custodian fumbled the ball.
UGTC now lead their group which also comprises Combined Sciences and the Faculty of Technology. They have also qualified for a semifinal place.
The other group comprises Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry (FAF), UG Staff and a combined team of faculty of Social Sciences, School of Education and Humanities and School of Earth and Environmental Studies (SEES).
Agriculture currently heads the second group after defeating Staff 6-3 last Thursday night. Staff played the Combined SSS team yesterday while the finals will be on Saturday March 19.
