The Alliance For Change Presidential Candidate, Khemraj Ramjattan, yesterday denied having any meeting with the People’s National Congress Reform Candidate, Brig. David Granger, on any coalition talks.
Ramjattan said that the party’s position at present is clear in that it will not be coaliting with either the PNCR or the People’s Progressive Party Civic as an entity.
Ramjattan did say that they would be willing to consider and work with defectors from the two parties, “but not the party as a whole.”
He said that the AFC is no longer a member of the Joint Opposition Political Parties.
Ramjattan said that they only teamed up for the production of the dossier that was prepared and distributed to several international organizations.
The party yesterday stated that it is alarmed by a report in the State Media that the AFC’s Presidential Candidate Ramjattan recently held a meeting with the newly appointed PNC/R Presidential Candidate.
“The AFC wishes to make it pellucid that no such meeting has occurred…The report by the state media is clearly another lie intended to promote racial fears to sustain the PPP’s dependence on ethnic voting.”
The party said that it is quite confident based on its work and research that Guyanese want change and will therefore be voting on the issues.
“In view of this, the AFC is proceeding with its robust campaign to change Guyana. The central tenets of the AFC’s programme for Guyana involve constitutional reforms, economic revival and creating a safe and secure society.”
