Friendship Secondary School Girls created the first upset of this year’s upset National Sports Commission / Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport / Al Sport & Tour Promotions Secondary Schools Windball Cricket Championships after defeating defending champion Bladen Hall Multilateral on Wednesday, at the National Gymnasium.
Friendship beat Bladen Hall by 2 runs. Friendship invited to take first strike made 70-1, with Teroilla Abrams hitting a top-score of 43.
Bladen Hall in their turn at the crease were restricted to 68-2 when the overs expired.
Queenstown Secondary and Guyana Education Trust College (GETC) played to a tie.
Queenstown batted first and scored 71-2, Shyanne Subrattie 34, Jonesse Trotman 11.
GETC 71-2, Fanacia Paul 22, Maranda Bennett 20.
L’Aventure defeated Supply by 9 wickets. Supply Secondary made 36-4, with Jemina Ben 10; Satawattie Sugrim took 3-14 bowling for L’Aventure who replied with 37-1, Sugrim 11 & Tishana Douglas 11.
Central High squeezed past Camille’s Institute for Business & Science Studies (CIBSS) by 3 runs. Central High after being invited to bat first made 95-2, Akisha Odai 37, Ronika Phillips 11.
CIBSS replied with 92-0, with Kishana Lowenfield 47, Omma Mohabir 19.
Boys
Monar Educational Institute Region #3, Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC), Guyana Education Trust College, Bladen Hall Multilateral & Queenstown Secondary, all recorded wins in the inaugural Championship.
Monar beat Central High by 21 runs. Monar 88-0, Julio Jones 54, Donrjck Rodney 23.
Central High in their response reached 67-1 when the overs expired. Daniel Jadbir 27, Shivraj Parmanand 15 and Samuels Fraser 14 were the principal scorers.
GITC cruised past Friendship by 33 runs. GITC made 85-0 after batting first. Keron Chance 63 & Yekini Favourite 16 were the main contributors.
Friendship replied with 52-3, Christopher Fernandes 19. Rondel Daniels 3-21.
Queenstown defeated CIBSS by 4 runs. Queenstown Secondary 67-0, Mario King 27, Avinash Bhandoo 25. CIBSS 63-3, Keshan Persaud 17, Shane Samuels 16, Rudolph Jaikisshun 12.
Bowling for Queenstown, A. Bhandoo took 2-17. GETC eased past Supply by 10 wickets. Supply 20-7, Dominic Vincente 5-10, Kareem Naughton 2-10. GETC 21-0, Naughton 16, Vincente 4.
