The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) with sponsorship garnered from National Communications Network Inc. unveiled the 2011 NCN Inter Zone Under-15 tournament. The launching took place on Saturday last at the State House in New Amsterdam.
Regional Manager of NCN Berbice Operations Faizal Jaffarally in handing over the sponsorship cheque for $205,000 stated that his company was quite pleased with the success of the 2010 tournament and the professional manner in which it was run by the Board.
Jaffarally said that the BCB is a role model organisation and should be emulated by all in Guyana while pledging the support of NCN in the future. He also expressed confidence that the tournament would produce more stars for the County.
Board President, Keith Foster conveyed his gratitude to NCN for staying the course with them and disclosed that last year’s sponsorship helped the County to dominate the Guyana Cricket Board Inter County tournament.
Foster expressed gratitude especially to Jaffarally and Mr. Mohamed Sattaur for the role they played in securing the sponsorship.
BCB Special Events Committee Member Nermala Sewdat who chaired the proceedings said that the tournament will bowl off shortly in conjunction with the Tenelec Inc Inter Club tournament. The four teams that will be part of the NCN competition are West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Central/Upper Corentyne.
Matches would be used as trials to select the Berbice Under-15 team for the Guyana Cricket Board tournament.
