Dear Editor,
I want the powers that be, frankly those who saw it favourable to pass the most unfair bill in history, for people like myself who have savings with Globe Trust, to take note that the way they worked out small depositors from large depositors in the disbursement of funds is seriously wrong.
I have in my savings book $100,718.00 therefore considered a large depositor while those who have savings up to $100,000.00 are small depositors; $718 dollars separate the difference.
After waiting 10 years for my $100,000.00, I am now suppose to go to Mr. Nazim Ali and collect $4,000 which they reckon is the percentage of my savings that I am entitled to.
I thought the law was meant to be fair…
I will gladly forfeit the $718 dollars to get the bulk of my savings. It is evident that there is money available due to the lack of people who came forward to collect their pittance. Now I see they will be sending uncollected monies back to the Bank of Guyana by March 28th.
This whole scenario has been carefully orchestrated for people in my ‘large depositor’ category to suffer most. What is so large about $100,718.00 unless you are working class like me?
You can call me stubborn, stupid or ignorant but there is no way on earth that I will ever collect $4,000 after waiting 10 years.
I will never ever stoop so low to accept such a blatant insult. When the money goes back to the Bank they should pass another bill so that small depositors can get their money. I for one will still be waiting for the law to do justice on behalf of the poor people.
