The Guyana Rugby Football Union will officially launch the 2011 Rugby Season with the traditional Banks DIH Sevens Tournament this Sunday, 13 at the National Park Rugby Ground commencing at 10:30am.
The Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, has been invited to take the Salute of the March Past of teams and to deliver the Feature Remarks.
The tournament will feature Male and Female Seven-a-Side competition for the Banks DIH Trophy among Yamaha Caribs, the Guyana Defence Force and the Pepsi Hornets.
Pepsi Hornets are the current holders of the Men’s Trophy and Yamaha Caribs the Women’s Trophy.
The competing teams will assemble at 10:30am for the March Past of teams. The March Past and salute will take place at 11:00am. The teams will present themselves to the Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport or his representative who will address them.
GRFU’s Match Secretary, Col. John Lewis, has been appointed Match Commissioner of the tournament. Kick-off of the first game will take place at 12:00 hrs.
The presentation of trophies will take place at the conclusion of the final game at approximately 17:00 hrs (5:00 p.m) to be presented by a representative of Banks DIH.
