Alpha United Football Club will hope to get all things right as their open their campaign in the Mayor’s Cup Football Championship tonight at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda. The country’s leading club will be out for a ruthless performance against Beterverwagting Triumph in the feature game of tonight’s double header starting at 8:00pm. The opening encounter pits Santos against Victoria Kings to set the tone for the city versus East Coast rivalry expected tonight.
Alpha, with their sights set on an outstanding performance at the upcoming Caribbean Football Union Club championship, will use this tournament as valuable preparation for this major engagement. However, the $1M first prize on offer in the Mayor’s Cup is also a key motivating factor in the equation and they will most certainly be looking to add to their growing collection.
Senior heads, Shawn Bishop, Howard Lowe, Quincy Madramootoo, Kelvin McKenzie, Anthony Abrams and Dwayne Jacobs will lead their attack, and will look to fire after a few not so pleasing performances in recent warm up action.
Their opponents, BV, will be spearheaded by Captain Colin Jones, Nickel Fraser, Kelvin Williams, Ronel Gordon and Malcolm Wilson. This East Coast outfit will come guns firing as they look to upset the favourites and a keen contest is anticipated.
In the opening encounter, Santos with Trevor Lewis, Shemroy Arthur, William Europe and Michael Pedro will look to dominate Victoria Kings. The East Coast team will have Aubrey Gibson, Calvin DeSouza, Winston Pompey, Pierre Joseph and Sherlock Dowridge leading their charge.
Once a powerful force in local football, Kings are on the road back and will look to give a resurgent Santos a run for the money setting the stage for an entertaining contest. Fans are encouraged to come out and witness two very entertaining games.
The excitement continues Sunday at the same venue with another potentially exciting double header.
Camptown open against Bakewell Buxton, while BK Western Tigers challenge Beacons. Quarterfinal places are at stake in all the encounters.
