Each year when it is the death anniversary of Cheddi Jagan, the PPP cardinals move in on Berbice and preach the most appalling fictions to and perpetuate horrific historical distortions on these innocent people. This year was no exception. Each time when that event comes around, I do a column in rebuttal. I missed out last year.
This month’s address was particular egregious. There were massive fictions thrown upon the crowd; equally massive facts about dictatorship were not told to the listeners.
It is for Messrs Komal Chand, Navin Chandarpal and Moses Nagamootoo to go to Berbice and tell the citizens there about the horrific laceration of the Jagan legacy by Mr. Jagdeo and others. That can be easily seen because the evidence is overwhelming. I ask Berbicians not to be stupid, idiotic and self-destructive. Have pride and dignity and do not be misled by barefaced lies that can easily be seen.
I ask Berbicians to read this column. They will see for themselves that the present government is the worst administration we have ever had in the history of this land.
Examine the evidence for yourself. Forget about what President Burnham did. Even if you didn’t like him because he banned flour, it was all of Guyana, not East Indians alone that went without bread. Berbicians must not accept what PPP leaders tell them. They must look at the facts and the facts make the ruling cabal look bad, really bad; so bad that Mr. Jagdeo gets real mad when he reads this column and this newspaper and what the Stabroek News, Prime News and Capitol News report on and what is contained in the online newspaper of Mark Benschop titled Guyanaobserversnews.org
Berbicians need to know that never in this country, until now, did a Permanent Secretary own nine houses, including one that has a swimming pool. And this man is less than six years in the job. A swimming pool in any dirt poor country like Guyana can only be owned by very wealthy citizens.
Since when does a wealthy man so rich to own a swimming pool will want to work in the public sector as a mere employee? Where will he get the money to maintain his watery delight? This man’s resources have come through corruption.
Berbicians need to know that previous Presidents never owned a house that cost the value of Mr. Jagdeo’s casa in Pradoville One. He sold it for $120 million then merrily bought another piece of land (in what is nicknamed Pradoville Two) not owned by a private person but the property of the people of Guyana. No one knows to date how Mr. Jagdeo arrived at the price he paid of $5 million for his land, which according to attorney, Arif Bulkan is 2.5 acres.
I urge some of the Berbicians who listened to Mr. Jagdeo last Sunday to visit Pradoville Two and see what structure Mr. Jagdeo is erecting. Please contact me if you need transportation and overnight dwelling. This offer stands.
I call upon Berbicians to tell me if PPP Presidents Jagan and his wife and PNC Presidents Burnham and Hoyte would tolerate rich young men who kill people with their vehicles and the police are afraid to charge them. It happened under this President presidency.
I ask Berbicians to tell me that if they are over sixty which of our previous presidents tolerated a Minister who is drunk all the time, commits illegalities openly but the police do not visit him, the President does not discipline him and he remains an untouchable.
These are the things Berbicians need to know about their present government.
Berbicians must have dignity and do not accept the jumbie nonsense that bad leaders from the PPP tell them.
Even if you didn’t like Mr. Burnham, Mr. Burnham loved Guyana so much that he would never do a stupid thing like employ a young white guy without any experience of working in Guyana and pay him cash and other emoluments that total almost $4 million a month.
Do Berbicians agree with this? Isn’t there any educated Berbician who can do what this 31-year-old foreigner is doing? I taught at the Berbice campus of UG and the answer is yes. Space has run out for me to continue to address you. I suggest to Berbicians, invite people like Mr. Christopher Ram and Malcolm Harripaul to speak to them and they will tell you how far worse are the present rulers than those we had in the PNC.
