Police have launched a search for a Toyota Carina AT 192 motorcar which was stolen from outside a Republic Park home some time between Tuesday night and yesterday morning.
Pensioner Abdul Karim of 420 McDavid Street, Republic Park, got the shock of his life yesterday when he awoke to find his beige coloured Carina PHH 6596 missing.
He told this newspaper that he normally parks his vehicle in his yard but since he had done some cement work, he decided to park it on a neighbour’s bridge.
He last saw his car around 20:30 hours after securing it before he retired to bed.
Rahim awoke around 04:45 hours yesterday only to discover that his car had vanished.
“I couldn’t believe it. No one heard anything. However I went and prayed and then reported it to the police,” the pensioner told this newspaper.
He acknowledged that since his car carries a colour that is common among those of the same make, it could be difficult for persons to recognize it as stolen since he is certain that whoever took it would have changed the licence plates.
Karim is however hopeful that his car would be recovered even it is stripped of a few parts, which he said can be replaced.
