Six Children’s Homes and five Day Care Centres are beneficiaries of a large number of items donated to their entities by the Food for the Poor (FFTP) Organisation, with the intention of alleviating the burden of poor and unfortunate members (especially children) of society.
The Homes that benefited from the donations were Carmel, Ruimveldt Children’s, Save Our Kids, Convalescents, Bright Horizon Day Care and Beacon Foundation, while the five day care centres, which are under the municipal day care service, are Festival City, East Ruimveldt, Industrial Site, Charlestown and South Road.
According to Leon Davis, Director of Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc., the donations are to assist particularly children with basic gears that are necessary for day to day activities. He stressed that caretakers and teachers should take good care of the items so that others can also benefit in the future.
The items include baby kits, cleaning supplies, infant play cards, children’s furniture, exercise books, baby shoes, Sunday school books, pencils, crayons, anti-bacterial soap and stuffed toys.
Davis further stated that his entity intends to do all it possibly can to ensure that children live comfortable and happy lives and enjoy their rights.
“Our motto and our mission is that children get help that is needed to create a better tomorrow, because our children are the future.”
Recipients from the respective homes and day care centres expressed their appreciation to Food for the Poor for “always lending a helping hand” whenever they ask for assistance.
