– Incomplete resurfacing work to blame
The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) season opening Endurance Race Meet has been shifted to March 21, the day after Phagwah Day due to the incompletion of resurfacing work on the track, at the South Dakota Circuit.
President of the Club Raj Boodhoo relayed this information to Kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday.
According to Boodhoo, the resurfacing of the track which started earlier in the year is still to be completed, but it is expected that all works will be finished in time for the new date.
Boodhoo is advising all competitors to continue preparations for the Meet, while plans for the eagerly anticipated April 3 Race Meet are also going ahead.
The GMR&SC calendar of events continues with Drag Racing which is set for May 1 and that will be followed by the initial leg of the Caribbean Series on May 23, at Dover Speedway in Jamaica.
Go Kart Racing returns to the club Headquarters on Albert Street on June 5, while another Drag Meet is scheduled for July 3, at the South Dakota Circuit.
The second round of Circuit Racing returns on July 31, before the August 21 Drag Meet and that will be followed by the exodus of local drivers for the second leg of the Caribbean Series at Bushy Park in Barbados on August 28.
Racing then enjoys a lull until November 13 when the final leg of the Caribbean Series will be held at the South Dakota Circuit and that precedes the final event of the year which is the Endurance Meet on December 4, at the South Dakota Circuit.
