Rudolph Mitchell continues to dominate the local race walking scene and has chalked up his 114th victory on the trot when he out-walked a competitive field to take the honours in the Linden race walk last Sunday.
The race was organised by the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) and marked the culmination of the programme in commemoration of their Mashramani activities. The walkers were sent on their way from the Amelia’s Ward junction at around 06:30hrs and completed the course at the Bayrock Recreational Centre.
Jeremy Cornelius had to be content with second place while Donna Ramkissoon, who opted to race among the males, closed off the podium spots.
Glayson Ralph continued to show that he was the best junior walker around when he romped in first in that category, ahead of Kenneth Singh and Keon Ramkissoon, second and third, respectively.
Janet Reid was the first female across the finish line in her category while Frederick Ochoa carted off the top prize in the veterans category. The various winners received prizes donated by Giftland Office Max while the Guyana Forestry Commission provided the transportation for the athletes.
Meanwhile, the walkers would once again tie their laces when the CSTC stages another race this Sunday in commemoration of the death of the late President, Cheddi Jagan.
The walkers convene at the Bank of Guyana, Avenue of the Republic at 06:30hrs race day for the trek north along Main Street up to the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, High Street Kingston for the finish.
Several other races are planned to commemorate the late President’s death anniversary and will be announced later.
