Seetal brothers shine at East Coast 10k road race
The Seetal brothers Chavez and Alex with their trophies after their dominating performance.
National athlete Chavez Seetal outpaced his opponents to emerge overall winner of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport/Golden Stars Sport Committee Mashramani 10km road race on the East Coast of Demerara Sunday.
Twenty athletes faced the starter at Mosquito Hall, Mahaica and by the time they reached the finish line at Golden Grove, Seetal had stamped his authority after a blistering start.
His younger brother 10 year old Alex won the hearts of the crowd by completing the race ahead of some of the older competition.
Tenisha Nero was the first female to cross the line, while Patrick Liverpool topped the over-40 category.
Other prize winners were Raynell Neptune (under-14 girls); Chavez Glasgow (under-14 boys) Akeem Smith (under-16 boys); Dacia Prince (under-20 girls) and Michael Thom (open).
The athletes were drawn from the villages of Golden Grove, Haslington and Nabaclis and the organisers are confident of expanding the even to include athletes from other villages to make it a successful annual feature.
All the winners received trophies donated by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport as well as $5,000, which was provided by sponsors ‘Daddy’ Solomon; Cybertec of Nabaclis; Captain Archer; Jerrick’s One Stop Hardware and General Store at Golden Grove and Keltec of Nabaclis.
