Essequibians turned up in their numbers to witness the much anticipated floodlight football games, which kicked off at Walton-Hall, over the weekend.
The shortened 20-20, minutes version, the newest form of soccer being played in the county of Essequibo, has attracted eight teams, across the region. The teams that were involved in the games were Dartmouth, NOC, Queenstown, Henrietta, Charity, Devonshire-Castle, Richmond and Supenaam.
In the first round matches; Henrietta defeated Dartmouth 3-2, Supernaam also beat Richmond 3-2, Queenstown overcame Charity 3-1 and Devonshire Castle and NOC played out a 1-1 stalemate. In the semifinals, Henrietta edged Supenaam 2-1 on penalties, while Queenstown got by Devonshire Castle 2-1.
The finals saw Queenstown getting the better of Henrietta 4-3 in a very exciting contest.
