Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali yesterday signed contracts totalling $262,139,603. The three contracts will see developmental works in three locations including Culvert City, Lethem in Region Nine; Eccles/Providence, East Bank Demerara, and Good Hope, East Coast Demerara.
The project at Culvert City for works costing $89.9 million is expected to be completed within three months. This project will see infrastructure works that will include the installation of potable water and paved roads.
An estimated 2,460 persons stand to benefit from the works to be undertaken by V. Dallip Enterprise.
The second, a $111 million contract was awarded to Ivor Allen and has a duration of 90 days. This project will see the construction of a two-mile stretch road in Providence leading to the new housing area.
Good Hope, East Coast of Demerara will see the upgrading of roads at a cost $61,195,651. That contract has been awarded to Mac. Junior International. Like the Eccles/Providence the Good Hope project will run for a period of 90 days.
Minister Ali said that quality, efficiency and timeliness will be high on the agenda for the Ministry. The Minister added that community involvement will also place a major role in the execution of these projects.
The Housing Minister also announced that the Ministry will be holding its first One-Stop shop today at Anchor’s Ville. Also this year several other housing schemes will see major developments including the resurfacing of roads in the Tuschen Housing Scheme, the Parfait Harmonie Scheme and the Sophia area.
Ali further pointed out that his Ministry is well on their way to reaching the target of 17,000 house lots to be distributed. At the soon to be developed Eccles scheme some 1,000 house lots will be distributed, as they are expected to be ready by April.
The Minister however noted that there was some setback with works at the location because of the inclement weather. Over on the West Coast Demerara another 280 lots will be distributed.
