Dear Editor,
I have always wondered both during the PNC and PPP periods of rule there have to be persons working in the various offices of power that see this corruption and abuse like Marcelle Joseph has witnessed, but very few come forward to deliver the facts.
It is extremely rare in Guyanese society for people to pass these details on to the press and or the opposition and expose governments. I understand that people have to eat and I do not underestimate the fear factor that exists under the PPP, but unless Guyana has more patriots that continue to expose government corruption Guyana will never improve politically, socially or economically.
If wikileaks and most recently and more pertinently this laptop fiasco have brought to the fore in Guyana the importance of citizens speaking up whether actively or passively it is imperative that citizens across the board expose this government as they witness these corrupt practices taking place. It is not only the right thing to do it is the patriotic thing to do.
Mr. Editor it is too often that we see so many people when they have been victimized by this government then they start to speak up. It is important that we point out the hypocrisy of their position. They have a much stronger case as Marcelle Joseph has when they expose the information before they are publicly victimized.
Finally we must remember corruption and scandals in government hurts us all; at the end of the day it is taxpayers’ monies that are squandered and or stolen; the same monies that can be used to pay for better policing, pay for better education, health care etc.
Marcelle Joseph is a true Guyana patriot and I call on President Jagdeo to immediately cease the hideous trash talk about this young lady being put in the press by none other than his office. It is immature and lacks class. If you want to be treated presidential you must respect the citizens of this country.
