Organisers still awaiting some sponsorship $$$
While all systems are in place for the start of the Annual Mayor’s Cup Club Football Championship, which is fixed for Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground from 6:00pm, the organisers are still to collect some promised sponsorship dollars.
Coordinator Lennox Arthur told Kaieteur Sport that all systems are set for Friday’s start when Riddim Squad battle Den Amstel in the opening encounter, while Pele challenge Seawall FC in the nightcap at 8:00pm.
Arthur noted that the GFC is in excellent shape and all the teams are ready for the action. At stake is a first prize of $1M, second prize is $500,000, third $200,000 and fourth $100,000. Individual prizes for the MVP, leading goalscorer and goalkeeper will see them taking away attractive rewards. Among those rewards are a motorcycle from Jailing, a television from Keishar’s and a 3 piece suite from AH&L Kissoon Furniture Store.
Among the sponsors already on board are Banks DIH, MACORP, Digicel, General Equipment Guyana Ltd, Busta, Nazar Mohammed, Bakewell,
National Pride, John Fernandes, Body Max Gym, Gold Target Export and Demerara Distillers Limited. Several others have pledged but have not delivered as yet, Arthur informed.
His Excellency, President Bharrat Jagdeo, who is an ardent football fan and supporter over the years, has been approached. While his office has acknowledged the Mayor’s Cup Committee’s request, he is still to confirm if he will actually support the event.
The other teams battling for the attractive first prize are GDF, Monedderlust, Fruta Conquerors, NA United, Camptown, Bakewell Buxton, BK Western Tigers, Beacon, Santos, Victoria Kings, Alpha and BV Triumph United.
Quincy Madramootoo, Konata Manning, Sherman David and Llyton Ramsay are some of the stars on show representing the teams on show Friday.
Other playing days are: Sunday March 6 and March 13, Wednesday March 16, Friday march 18, Sunday March 20, Wednesday March 23 and Sunday March 27 when the grand finale will be staged. The final and third place playoff is fixed for the National Stadium at Providence.
