Mason dies minutes after drinking ‘rum’
Sherlock Jones left his home at Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning and reported for work at Middle Road La Penitence, Georgetown, not knowing that it would have been the last time his family would be seeing him alive.
Jones died under mysterious circumstances while receiving medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital, some time around 18:00 hours last evening after taking a sip from a bottle of five years old rum.
According to one of his colleagues, Jones along with four other workers was carrying out a “full cast” in a yard in Middle Road La Penitence when Jones bought a bottle of Guinness. The colleague, who was reluctant to give his name to reporters, said that their boss man collected a bottle of five years old liquor from the owner of the house they were working at and Jones decided to take a “shot”. He went on to explain that minutes after Jones drank the rum, he started to complain about feeling unwell.
It was during that time that the other workers observed Jones looking a little weak. With that one of the men held on to Jones and called upon the others to summon help. A next door neighbour quickly rendered assistance in transporting Jones who was already in a semi-unconscious condition to the hospital.
The colleague who was at the hospital along with the owner of the house said that while Jones was in the vehicle, froth was seen coming out of his mouth and his body was beginning to feel cold.
When asked if Jones was communicating with him while being transported to the hospital, the colleague responded in the negative.
“He was not talking and he din feeling very cold, a set of froth was coming out of his mouth”.
As the decease employer and his colleague stood nervously outside the accident and emergency unit, lawmen enforcement officers came and escorted the boss lady to the hospital outpost for questioning.

She was later seen being lead away by a female police officer.
It was during that time that word spread about Jones passing.
His colleague who was at the hospital all this time after hearing the tragic news started pacing the hospital grounds anxiously.
He was over heard telling the neighbour who transported Jones that he too was felling a little upset after drinking the said rum.
Tests are expected to be carried out on the colleague.
Relatives of the decease were however contacted by health personnel to identify the remains of Jones.
At the hospital, the mother of the decease refused to speak to media, mentioning that she cannot understand why the media is interested in her son’s death.
Clarification on the decease age and exact address was still scratchy up to press time.
