New Line Aqua Farm Inc. has provided 100 Red Tilapia brood stock and 500 Tambaqui fingerlings to members of the Aquaculture Cluster.
This is in keeping with New Line’s commitment to facilitate the development of the local aquaculture sector, for the benefit of all parties involved.
New Line Aqua Farm Inc. has been providing brood stock and fingerlings to emerging farms, thereby giving a boost to the emerging aquaculture sector, enabling farms to proceed on an accelerated production curve.
Within the last month, New Line Aqua Farm Inc. also donated Tambaqui fingerlings to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, for a poverty alleviation project in Mahdia.
According to New Line Aqua Farm, the provision of the fingerlings and brood stock has been made possible due to the commercial nature of the farm, and the highly productive Tilapia and Tambaqui hatcheries, the latter being the first of its kind in Guyana.
New Line Aqua Farm sells, on a daily basis, commercial and retail quantities of Tilapia and Tambaqui. Fish are available whole or fully processed (degutted, descaled and de-gilled) and frozen.
Background
New Line Aqua Farm is a modern, commercial aquaculture facility, located next to the Boeraserie Creek, in Guyana, South America. The farm is located on what was once one of the largest crop production centers in Guyana in the 1960’s, producing tons of fresh fruits, vegetables and tubers per month.
However, the enormous demand for aquaculture products has led to this land being acquired by New Line Aqua-Farm, for production of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), Arapaima (Arapaima gigas) and Tigerfish (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum).
New Line Aqua Farm started development in 2001, with the intention to engage in commercial, yet environmentally friendly, aquaculture, focusing on the Nile and Red Tilapia, Tambaqui and Hassar.
By early 2002, small scale production had started, and by 2003, commercial harvests were achieved.
Today, New Line Aqua-Farm Inc. is a modern aquaculture facility, and the largest aquaculture farm in Guyana, with its own feed mill and fish processing plant, supplying local and overseas markets. The number of species cultured has grown, and the acreage under aquaculture continues to increase.
Tilapia produced is currently exported to the Caribbean and North America, while the Tambaqui is sold mostly locally, with some exports to Suriname and Brazil.
The farm currently has about 100 acres under aquaculture, and the culture area is currently being expanded.
The farm also has the largest Tilapia Hatchery in Guyana, and the only Tambaqui Hatchery locally.
All the irrigation water comes from rainfall, and is stored in a 300 acre reservoir, ensuring that ground water is not depleted. All feed used is formulated from natural, local ingredients.
No hormones, antibiotics, growth promoters or other additives are used in the production system, resulting in a totally natural production system.
