Even as on field preparations continues at a hectic pace ahead of their Caribbean Football Union Club Champions match against Suriname’s Intermoengatope on March 13 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden, the Management of Milerock Football Club are pursuing sponsorship at a hectic pace too.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport from Linden yesterday, Head Coach Brian Joseph disclosed that they are still off the pace of their projected budget of $4.5 Million for the first phase but efforts are being made to achieve the full amount.
Joseph said that a number of business entities have been approached and are still to make a commitment.
“We have sent letters to many companies and have been following up. Some have given a commitment but are still to decide the amount while some have not responded and others have said we need to check with them in the new week.”
The assistant National Coach said it has been quite a challenge but they are confident that they will be able to achieve their budgeted amount.
Milerock will entertain Suriname’s Intermoengatope in the first of their home and away tie on Sunday March 13 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in Linden and along with top Guyanese side Alpha United, are the two clubs from Guyana who will be aiming for glory in this year’s edition of the top Club competition in the Caribbean.
Technical and tactical sessions for the Linden club commenced on Thursday last at the Bayrock Community Centre Ground and Joseph noted that prior to these sessions, the team was focused on attaining a high level of fitness by undergoing conditioning and strength sessions.
Head Coach of the National Under-20 team Collie Hercules was scheduled to join the Technical staff to assist with preparations but this has been delayed since Hercules was involved in a vehicular accident on the Linden Soesdyke Highway and is on the mend.
Joseph informed that he {Hercules} should be turning out sometime in the new week. Intermoengatope will arrive in Guyana on Friday March 11 ahead of their clash.
Meanwhile, Alpha United have been hard at training also with focus on conditioning as well as some tactical work which is being phased in according to Head Coach, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover.
“We have been at it; the weather has been a challenge as you know but we have to do what we have to do to get into the best possible shape because this time around we intend to really make our mark at the highest club level in the Caribbean.”
While this is the third year Alpha, Guyana’s number one club has been competing in this competition, Milerock will be making their debut. The Guyana Defence Force was the other club along with Alpha that participated in last year’s edition when Alpha made it to the second round in Trinidad and Tobago.
