The eight (8) teams set to compete in the first ever flood light knock-out Twenty20 cricket competition in Bartica have all been expressing confidence that they will take the champions trophy, $400,000 and bragging rights.
Organised by D&C Promotions, competition will get underway on Saturday March 5, at the Bartica Community Centre Ground with two matches. Pomeroon will tangle with North Essequibo from 16:00hrs with the winner booking a place in the semifinals.
The feature match on the opening day brings together Bartica ‘A’ and East Bank Essequibo.
Teams are in the height of preparation for what is anticipated to be a very entertaining and electrifying competition.
Pomeroon’s quest for the top prize will centre around Ramesh Narine, Darshan Lall, Brandon Cabose and Chris Williams.
North Essequibo will be led by Vishwanauth Lall, Mark Tryell, Navin Singh and Navin Bahadur.
Carrying the challenge for Bartica ‘A’ will be Kenzo Baksh, Troy Harper, Robert Moore, Sherwin Murray, Robin Narine, and Mahesh Richards.
East Bank Essequibo will bank on the experience of national player Trevor Benn as they seek glory. Benn will be supported by Jason Heliger, Mark Braithwaite,
and Kevin Boodie.
Action will continue on Sunday March 6 with two more matches from 13:00hrs. South Essequibo will come up against Central Essequibo with the main clash between Bartica ‘B’ and Wakenaam/Leguan Combined.
South Essequibo quest for victory will be carried by the experienced Norman Fredricks, Royan Fredricks, Anthony Adams and Delon Heliger.
National player Ronsford Beaton, Latchman Rohit, Denish Joseph and Henry Greene will lead the efforts of Central Essequibo.
Wakenaam/Leguan Combined will look to Wayne Osborne, Ricardo Adam, Tulsieram Premnauth and Oyono Sampson to chart a winning course for them while Bartica ‘B’ will depend on the likes of Festus Benn, Yusuf Khan, Glenn Fredericks, Shawn Garraway and Kellon Tracey.
Apart from the attractive cash prizes; first place ($400,000), second place ($200,000), third place ($100,000), fourth place ($20,000), the man-of-the-match for each game will pocket US$50 while for the semifinals and final that amount will be doubled.
