– NACAC team invited, but did not show up
Popular Brazilian Sports Bar, Rockies, hosted a reception Monday night at its 21 Light Street location for the hinterland-based athletes that recently returned from the North America, Central American and the Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Race.
Guyana’s NACAC Team Manager, Sonja Abraham (left), Doretta Wilson, Rockies Sports Bar representative, Ana Rita Pinneiro, Hezron Pedro, HYSDA Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Mark Rodrigues and Valerie Lowe pose for a photo opportunity Monday night.
The two Region Nine-based athletes, Doretta Wilson and Hezron Pedro, returned from Trinidad and Tobago Sunday after making their national and international debuts at the prestigious race at the Queens Park Savannah.
Surprisingly, the other members of the eight-member team were all absent from the reception at Rockies. Chairman of the Hinterland Youth and Sports Development Association (HYSDA), Mark Rodrigues indicated that he had invited the entire team.
Apart from, Wilson and Pedro, the team’s manager, Sonja Abraham was also present at the reception that was held to basically congratulate the hinterland-based athletes on their national selection. Vice-Chairman of HYSDA, Valerie Lowe was also present at the forum.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Colin Boyce had told Rodrigues earlier Monday at a press conference that he would not have been able to attend the reception because of work commitments.
