Dear Editor,
Bishop Juan Edghill’s reply (Kaieteur News February 18, 2011) seeks to dismiss very salient and cogent points made by Mr. Roger Williams and Mrs. Patricia Gonzalez.
The Bishop ought not to be surprise, if people now regard him and the institutions he leads as no more than pawns of a Government of immorality, and greed. If the great bishop wishes to redeem his good name then he needs to come clear on certain issues.
First example as a Christian Bishop and high ecclesiastical officer, his duty is to preserve and promote the sanctity of family life, and specifically the institution of marriage.
It is upon these two pillars, apart from others that a sound society is built. When the case of the false or contrived marriage by our Commander-in-Chief, Micro Manager par excellence, and custodian of all righteousness is in clear breach of the purported marriage vows he took, and related matters.
The Bishop must remember and explain to the public, when this bad example to our youth was drawn to his attention, he said, that it was a private matter. So much for Christian leadership, so much for preaching what is right and ignoring what is wrong.
In his preaching’s Christ fearlessly exposed practices that were immoral and inconsistent with the principles and rules he laid down.
The seventh commandment is clear “thou shall not commit adultery”.
When ordinary people violate one of these rules they are publicly exposed and hauled before the courts.
When Rev Rueben Gilbert wrote about racial discrimination by the Government controlled NCN years ago, I don’t recall any criticism or comment from the good Bishop. I said elsewhere, the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) should have been lambasting the government for forcing the people, the majority in the Linden community to listen only to the daily dose of government’s propaganda delivered through their media.
