The battle lines have been drawn and tonight, the teams will converge at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court to see who will walk away with the $200,000 first prize, as the Stag Beer Sponsored inter-ward street football reaches its climax.
After a week of heated clashes between teams from within the Linden community, ten teams have earned the right to compete for the lucrative cash prize.
The ten teams are – Young Guns, Whipping Bullets, High Stars, 100 Cars, Mines United, Red Wood Crescent, Hill Topp Rockers, Hard Knock and Ruff and Rugged.
Of the said teams, Mines United has earned a reputation of being the team highly favoured to win the inaugural tournament based on their fancy style, fancy display of the game and their tight defending.
On Sunday, when the tournament continued at the MSC Hard Court, Mines United trounced Reapers 4-0 to live up to their reputation and advance to tonight’s clash of ‘Titans’.
In other matches played, Young Guns shot past Constab Celebrities 1-0, Whipping Bullets had the better of Spike Land 1-0 and High Stars also injected Bad boys by the same margin.
Team 25 that featured a host of Linden’s top players got past 100 Cars by a brace and youthful line up in redwood Crescent did the trick against the star studded Amelia’s ward regulars 2-1.
Hill Topp Rockers stunned Silver Bullets 3-2, Hard Knocks were too much for Money Black whom they defeated 2-1 and the ever flamboyant Ruff and Rugged from the Amelia’s ward Area, outclassed Topp Class 3-0.
Organizer Anthony White is anticipating an even bigger crowd to converge at the venue and is asking patrons and players to show up early since they are looking for 4:00 pm start.
He said that so far, the tournament has surpassed their expectations and thanked the community for supporting the event and also for making it incident free.
“So far we are surprised of the response we got from the people, the players, everybody has supported the event very well and with out any problems. So for the finals we know it will be big and we will be giving away cool stuff from Ansa McAl, Stag Beer, so we want to start this thing early” White said.
The runner-up team will take home $100,000 while third place will pocket $50,000.
