The National Sports Commission Mashramani Junior Singles Badminton Tournament concluded on Saturday at the Queens College Badminton Courts.
Several quarterfinals, semis and finals were contested as the players exhibited quality badminton in some hard fought encounters.
One of the fittest players of the tournament was Guyana’s Top Under-13,15 & 17 Player Narayan Ramdhani, who on day two, had to play four matches of which two went to three setters to highlight the level of competition.
In The Under-15 semifinals he defeated Jonathan Mangra: 21-5, 21-3, while in the Under-15 final he beat Christopher Shewjattan: 21-19, 9-21-21. In The Under-19 semifinals he lost to Guyana’s No. 2 Under-19 player Avian Rodrigues: 21-14, 9-21, 21-12 and for the third place play off in the Under-19, Ramdhani defeated Avinash Odit.
The Guyana Badminton Association is pleased to also see the improvement of players like Avinash Odit, Christopher Persaud, Christopher Camacho, Jonathan Mangra, Jonelle Europe, Sanjay Singh, Amrita Ramnauth & Ria Persram.

Ria Persram defeated Analise Samaroo: 21-6, 21-3
Under-11 Girls Singles Final:

Third place went to Lea Lachmansingh who defeated Analise Samaroo: 21-6, 21-17
Under-11 Boys Singles semifinals:
Christopher Camacho defeated Joshua Singh: 21-14, 21-18

Ajave Singh defeated Christopher Camacho: 21-14, 21-10
Third place went to Joshua Singh
Under-15 Girls Singles quarterfinals:
Greer Jackson defeated Amrita Ramnauth: 21-2, 21-2
Jonelle Europe defeated Kadesh Daniels: 21-9, 21-6

Angelica Holder defeated Varsha Boodram: 21-14, 21-12

Ashley Khalil defeated Greer Jackson: 21-6, 21-8
Third Place went to Angelica Holder who defeated Amrita Ramnauth: 21-3, 21-2
Under-19 Boys Singles quarterfinals:
Avinash Odit defeated Christopher Persaud: 21-18, 18-21, 22-20
Under-19 Boys Singles semifinals:
Nicholas Ali defeated Avinash Odit: 21-4, 21-7
Avian Rodrigues defeated Narayan Ramdhani: 21-14, 19-21, 21-12
Under-19 Boys Singles Final:
Nicholas Ali defeated Avian Rodrigues: 21-13, 21-17
Third Place went to Narayan Ramdhani who defeated Avinash Odit: 21-18, 21-18
Prizes were handed out to the top three finishers. Several parents on hand assisted in making the presentations on behalf of the NSC.
The GBA is pleased to see the growth in the number of entries for the tournament and this will help in the developmental plan towards the Pan am Junior Championships 2011 which is to take place in Jamaica in July.
The GBA will be attending mainly in the Under-15, Under-13 & Under-11 Events where Guyana has the strongest chance of medaling.
