Saturday’s Special Congresses of the People’s National Congress Reform has long been plagued with accusations of fraud and rigging but a measure is being put in place to minimize this come Saturday when the party meets to elect a Presidential Candidate for the 2011 elections.
This newspaper has learnt that the delegates and observers that will be at the Congress on Saturday will have to present a credible photo Identification Card namely the National ID or a valid Passport.
They will have to present the ID card to gain entry into the compound after which they will be registered so that they could vote for a Candidate of their choice.
The Candidates currently vying for the post are party Vice Chairman Basil Williams, Brigadier (rtd) David Granger, Attorney at Law James Bond and Dr Faith Harding who is an Executive Member of the party and Former Finance Minister Carl Greenidge.
The party Chairman Bishwaishwar ‘Cammie’ Ramsaroop was initially in the lineup but declined to contest.
The nominees over the past few weeks have been touring the country pitching their case to the delegates as to what their vision was and why they should be elected as the Party’s Presidential Candidate
