Bandits have once again broken into a place of worship. Some time on Tuesday night, thieves broke into the Cornerstone Christian Brethren Church on Main Street, New Amsterdam and carted off more than $2M worth of items.
According to Pastor of the church, Courtney Adolph, the building was used then locked up Tuesday evening. Upon entering the yard on Wednesday at 15:45 hrs, he noticed a strange object which he picked up and threw out on the road. When he got closer to the building, he noticed that the front windows were broken. It was then that he realised that his church had been burgled. Among the things missing was a brand new outboard engine that had just been bought for use to access churches in the riverain districts in Berbice. The cost of the engine was over a million dollars. Two amplifiers, a cordless microphone and a mixer were also stolen.
Pastor Adolph, who has reported the matter to the police, noted that it was not the first time that thieves had broken into the church. He recently installed grills on the windows and doors with the hope that the building would be fully protected against intruders.
