…Ministry of Trade and Foreign Trade collaborate
Under the team promoting the spirit of Volunteerism, Career Guidance and Work Study, the St. Francis Community Developers (SFCD) and its partners of America Organisation held a one-day Career Day at the New Amsterdam Town Hall, yesterday.
The venue being moved from the All Saints Scott School ground due to the inclement weather.
According to President of the SFCD and Partners of America and coordinator of the activity, Alex Foster, this year the United Nations is observing 10 years of volunteerism in the world and as such a year-long programme of activities was planned .
He stated that starting this year all the volunteers in the Regions had decided to put Volunteerism on the front-burner of advocacy and outreach activities, seek to inspire people with the use of their time and knowledge and to show the benefits of Volunteerism.
With that in mind the SFCD and the Partners of America in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade decided to craft the year-long programme to highlight and observe the work of Volunteerism in Guyana.
The Career Day activity was one such planned with three basic objectives— Career opportunities available in the different work environments; Giving youth the opportunity to see what work study programmes are available; Avenues for volunteerism in the various work settings.
The opportunity was used to inform youths of jobs and careers available in Guyana; to inform youths about opportunities and avenues available to improve their education background and finally to educate youths about the country.
Although the activity was mainly planned with the young people in mind it was open to all.
Foster extended an invitation to those interested to make a special effort to attend this once in a life time event.
The event was coordinated by The All Saints Community Developers, an arm to the SFCD group.
Mr .Foster said that so far about 25 entities including Government and Non Governmental organizations were invited to showcase what they are doing.
