The Guyana Table Tennis Federation will today launching its International Table Tennis Federation Level One Coaches Certification Programme which will take place at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall until February 23.
The course will be conducted by ITTF approved Level One Instructor and former Caribbean and 11- times Guyana champion Sydney Christophe who arrived home yesterday. Today’s opening is set for 09:00hrs.
According to a GTTA release from General Secretary Godfrey Munroe, over 22 participants have registered but the association had to prune the list due to the high demand for participation.
Monroe however noted that there will be another ITTF sponsored course in April this year which would be conducted by Mr. Richard McAfee.
Coaches from Regions Two, Three, Four, Six and Ten will participate.
The course will expose participants to advance methodology techniques and strategies for coaching players and organisation of the sport and is tied to the sustainability of the GTTA’s developmental initiatives.
It is in keeping with the association strategic Plan which is to have the nucleus of coach’s trained as a means of complimenting its aims of decentralizing the sport; standardizing the methods for coaching; improving the coach to player ratio; complementing our table tennis for schools and communities programs; raising the level and competitiveness of the sport; enhancing the technical and tactical capacity; popularity; participation and profile of the sport among other benefits.
Coaches must complete a mandatory 30 hours theoretical and practical training with 6 supervised hours. Participants must be able to be proficient and demonstrate the ability to execute and implement the elements/topics dealt with before being certified.
GTTA President Henry Greene DSM and Director of Sports, Neil Kumar will deliver opening remarks at today’s opening while Guyana Olympic Association Treasurer Garfield Wiltshire will give the charge to the participants.
