A market brawl over missing ‘Congo pump’ leaves led to two women being placed before the courts on separate charges of assault.
The women, Victoria Bourne and Satyawattie Holder, both market vendors at the New Amsterdam market, appeared before magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
They were involved in a fracas at the New Amsterdam Market.
It is understood that on the day in question Bourne asked Holder to keep a plastic bag containing the leaves.
However, upon enquiring about her belongings the following the following day Bourne was told by Holder that it was thrown out of her cupboard.
Bourne became annoyed and dealt Holder several slaps to which Holder responded with several cuffs about Bourne’s body and a scuffle raged.
They were subsequently separated and arrested by the Market constabulary and taken to the Central Police Station where the charges were laid.
In court they told the magistrate that they did not wish to offer any evidence against each other.
The result was that the Magistrate placed them on a bond to keep the peace for six months.
Failure to do so will see both of them being jailed for three weeks each.
