Following a successful launching ceremony on February 8, activities in the Specialist National Domino competition continues and over 150 teams are vying for a top prize of $300,000 and a trophy.
The teams will battle in the playoffs on Saturday March 12 and Sunday 13 in the tournament that is being contested between twenty zones with nine teams in each zone and organised by the T Point Sports Club and Paul Lewis of Specialist Domino club.
Of this number, two will advance to the playoffs. Teams competing in the tournament are from Linden, Bartica, Essequibo, West Coast Demerara, West Bank Demerara, East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara, Georgetown and East and West Coast Berbice.
Several specially invited organizations and clubs will also participate in the tournament but will compete among themselves in a two tiered arrangement.
Meanwhile, representatives of zones 6, 7 and 8 are asked to contact Colin McEwan (jr) (614-4843 or 669-1798) for relevant details pertaining to the tournament.
Other prizes on offer will see the second placed tem collecting $150,000, third $100,000 and fourth $60,000 along with trophies. Several individual awards are also up for grabs.
Part of the proceeds of this tournament will go towards the purchase of a PA system, Water dispenser and cupboard for the St Stevens School in Charlestown.
