Former National batsman Andre Percival will lead West Demerara’s New Line Cavaliers in this weekend’s Demerara Cricket Board three-day first division cricket final against GCC at Bourda.
The Left-handed Percival, a former West Indies under-19 Skipper, will have fellow Berbicain Gajanand Singh as his deputy for the game which is scheduled to be played tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday at the historic former Test venue which hosted the washed out Regional 3rd round First-Class fixture between Guyana and the Leeward Islands over last weekend.
Singh, who replaced injured batsman Leon Johnson in the Guyana squad for that game, is expected to carry the batting for New Line Cavaliers after being left out of the Guyana squad for their game against the Windward Islands in St Vincent from tomorrow once Johnson retuned to full fitness.
Medium pacer Paul Wintz, another Berbician in the side, makes his return to division one cricket after a groin injury sustained during the Champions League T20 competition in South Africa last September kept him out of the Regional 50-over and the last Regional T20 tournament. He should spearhead the bowling this weekend against a GCC team without key batsmen Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shiv Chanderpaul, Johnson and Vishal Singh who are on West Indies and National duty.
Former Berbice leg-spinning all-rounder Balram Samaroo has also been named in the Cavaliers squad while the GCC squad is expected to be named this afternoon.
