A 40-year-old hire car driver of Betsy Ground, East Canje was found dead hanging by what appeared to be shoelace tied around his neck in the bedroom of his dead father’s home.
The dead man’s brother and a niece found the body of Ramdial Ganyah in the Cumberland house on Monday just after 16:00 hrs.
His wife, Dhanrajie Tulsi, said that she was informed around 16:30 hrs that her husband had committed suicide. She said that she immediately went to the house at Cumberland to see her dead husband but could not do so since the man’s sister prevented her. Tulsi then had to resort to a neighbour’s yard.
Tulsie stated that she and her husband had frequent tumultuous periods in their relationship. One of the problems was a chronic drinking problem which she said resulted in irritable and at times disorderly behaviour.
The woman said that she was able to get a one-year restraining order last Wednesday from a Berbice court following a history of domestic problems that existed in the marriage. The dead man leaves to mourn two children, both of whom are in their teens.
According to Tulsi, her children are trying to come to grips with the fact that they may not be able to see their deceased father for one last time since the man’s relatives have not agreed to such.
She lamented the now seemingly hopeless situation she is left in since her husband was the sole breadwinner of the home, even though she sold a few household items in the community from time to time.
She is worried for her daughter who had to be taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital on several occasions due to her feeling unwell at not being able to see the body of her dead father.
Tulsi said that she last saw and spoke with her husband last Thursday after which he ate and took a bath and tried to make things right with her and the kids. He also took the children to school.
Ganyah was said to have made several attempts to take his life during last week and was arrested by the police and taken to the Reliance Police Station for observation. (Leon Suseran)
