The proprietor of Hot and Spicy Dish located at Albert and Third Streets, Alberttown, is calling on the Guyana Police Force and other relevant authorities to enforce order and discipline at the Queenstown basketball court that is located opposite the business entity.
According to the proprietor of the business, Vanessa Class, she has been operating her business in the area since 2005. Last year she said that she encountered tremendous problems with persons who chose to play cricket at the basketball court.
“The basketball court had up a sign that said no cricket is allowed, but they pulled it down.”
She said that yesterday customers immediately paid their bill and left after a cricket ball smashed into one of her windows, causing flakes of glasses to be scattered onto a table inside the business establishment. “A lot of our customer stop come here because they can’t sit outside. At one time the ball went into the restaurant knock the customer, went into the food and then into the sink.
These guys are from Hits and Jams. They behave like they are very powerful. If you hear how he cuss my husband when he talk about the broken window.”
Adding that she also lives upstairs of the her business, she disclosed that her two children who are studying have to leave the home to go elsewhere to study, even on Sundays and holidays.
She said that the group previously played cricket in Laluni Street, and on holidays and on Sundays the gang of cricketers would cause havoc around her business premises with their vulgarity, noise nuisance and destruction. “When people park their vehicle the ball hit their car windows, and disturbs them.”
She added that reports were made at the Alberttown Police Station and a female rank told her that there is nothing that the police can do about the situation. “She said they have to play cricket because it is a recreational facility, but that is a basketball court and why couldn’t they go GCC?”
Class explained that the cricket game has destroyed windows, chased customers, damaged their business reputation and cause great distress in the neighbourhood.
When Alberttown Police Station was contacted a female rank disclosed that a report was made at the station, and a rank visited the scene and took a report. However, the businesswoman was advised that the persons that were playing cricket could not have been removed since it was a recreational facility.
The policewoman further said that the businesswoman was further advised that she should return today at the station to give another statement.
