The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) is staying true to its promise to be active for 2011. The association which was recently resuscitated will be holding its second tournament for the year today.
This time a one day second division tournament will be held at The Eaglets Volley Ball Court in Reliance, East Canje, beginning at 09:00 hrs. The association, which is headed by Gregory Rambarran, successful hosted an open one day tournament for teams in the ancient county on Sunday January 16 at the GTM Volleyball court in New Amsterdam.
Tams expected to be a part of the activity are Eaglets, Rollers, Jaguars, Port Mourant Training School, Albion, Rose Hall Town and Berbice High School among others.
According to Rambarran, the tournament is mainly intended to galvanize interest in the game in the ancient county and keep the ball rolling.
Rambarran stated that teams playing in the competition will have an opportunity to be introduced to the new executive of the BVA. He further stated that at the presentation ceremony upon the completion of the competition, teams will be made aware of the activities planned for the rest of the year.
The association recently received a banner compliment of DTV television 8 in Berbice. The association also received a substantial donation from an overseas based supporter.
Rambarran further said that, the association has been getting good responses from stake holders and concern persons with respect to the development of the sport in Berbice and great things can be expected for the year 2011.
Next on the BVA programme is a beach volleyball competition on February 20 at the No.63 Beach, Berbice. This competition will be exclusively sponsored by DDL through its Diamond Mineral Water Brand. (Samuel Whyte)
