Subsequently, these officials have organized a one day softball cricket competition among Guyanese students studying in that country. The match will be a collaborative effort between the Cuba Cricket Board, the Caribbean Association of Cuba and the Guyana Softball League.
There are presently over 800 students studying various subjects in Cuba and most of them are expected to participate when activities get underway on February 23. Plans are also in train to hold another such match on Independence Day, May 26.
A release from the GSL informed that most of the students are female and a programme has been designed to encompass softball cricket within their respective curriculums. This publication has also been informed that executives of the local governing body have already dispatched several pieces of equipment which includes bats, balls, wickets and rule books to the Spanish country to facilitate the impending tournament. Mr. Halim has also indicated that he will attend the Independence Day match where he will hand over the winning trophy to the victorious team.
Meanwhile, the GSL President took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Cuban Ambassador and held discussions pertaining to the inaugural tournament and other cricket matters. The duo also discussed plans for future engagements of this nature.
The function was also attended by representatives of the Cuba Cricket Board who said that they are eagerly anticipating the tournaments. They also promised to draft the sport in the year’s itinerary and the schools’ curriculum.
For his part, Mr. Khan reiterated the benefits derived from participation in the sport pointing to enhanced health and the affordability concept.
