But Dejonge’s 89 leave him on losing side
Demerara leg-spinning all-rounder Travis Blyden scored his third fifty in four matches in a losing effort for Rousillac United on Saturday in the Trinidad and Tobago 40-overs cricket League.
The right-handed Guyana Defence Force player, who is Captain of the Trinidad club side, stroked an attractive 55 from 62 balls with 5 fours and a six and got support from fellow Guyanese Elton Baker (22) as their team fell for 153 in 29.5 overs against Esmeralda Sports Club who replied with 155-5 in 22.5 overs.
Jermin Francis 5-35 and Rayan Jaipaul 5-36 combined for all 10 wickets to undermine Blyden’s effort in the rain hit game which was reduced to 30 overs per side at the Esmeralda ground in central Trinidad
Esmeralda’s reply was led by another Guyanese in Berbician Maxi Dejonge who smashed 89 from 60 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Dejonge got support from Teshawn Castro who made 26.
Blyden told Kaieteur sport that his team had to win this game to qualify into the quarterfinals. “We lost so we are out of this competition which is a big disappointed for me as Skipper,” Blyden said.
Blyden has been in good form with scores of 59, 21, 88 and 55 and is looking forward to continue his good run with the bat and also take wickets in the League tournament which he says starts next weekend in the Twin-Island Republic.
While rain continues to hamper competitions in Guyana, a large number of Guyanese are among the foreign players participating at various levels in Trinidad’s cricket. (Sean Devers)
