Scotia Bank’s Service and Support Manager, Vibert Jones was elected the new Treasurer while Guyana Defence Force Major, Kenlloyd Roberts was elected to the position of Secretary. Merle Chalmers (Jordon) was elected to the Secretary/Treasurer position.
In some of the key posts, Jones replaced Roger Duff in the previous administration while Roberts replaced Robert Cadogan as Secretary. Former FIBA and Caribbean Basketball Confederation Technical Official, Cecil Chin was the returning officer.
In the comments of the document that represented the new GABA Executive, it was stated that it was their belief that the development of Basketball in Georgetown is hinged on a well-organised and regulated structure, functioning with a great sense of purpose and transparency.
“It is therefore important to have renowned professional administrators of high integrity to aid in the development of basketball. Our intention is to work at strengthening the organisational capacities of the association,” the documented stated.
They listed strengthening the structure and organisation of the clubs; increasing the participation of youths in the sport; garnering sponsorship for infrastructural development; ranking of clubs in Georgetown; training and development and increased involvement of clubs as six “Focus Areas” in the new dispensation of administration of the sport in the City.
Under his stewardship, Rose had presided over the resuscitation of the Burnham Basketball Court, which is incomplete; he had also generated outdoor interest in the sport with basketball retreats. The Division 1 and III Leagues had also returned to the GABA calendar as well as the Georgetown Inter-ward and initial National Super-Ward tournaments.
