Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Women’s Programme and Head Coach of the ‘Lady Jaguars’ Mark Rodrigues is expressing gratitude to a number of persons and entities for their support which resulted in the team being named National Team of the Year when the National Sports Commission announced the 2010 Sports Awards last Friday.
Rodrigues was also named GFF Coach of the year when that entity held its annual awards presentation Saturday last.
Following is Rodrigues’ message:
Any individual award earned through a team sport is only attainable when supported by an amazing cast. The amazing cast of the Lady Jags programme were; the ‘Lady Jags’ themselves (Past & Present).
Without you there would be no programme, no awards, no accomplishments to write or brag about.
You have been solely responsible for placing the country of Guyana for women’s football on the world stage. The ‘Lady Jags’ are now a household name around the world. Coaching and administration staff: Chris Brown, Ali Tabrizi, Colin Baker, Donna Carvalhal – who have been with and supported me from inception.
Their tireless efforts, work ethic, support, knowledge and selfless giving of their time without seeking any reward is unquestionable.
A special thank you also to Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover for taking time off from the men’s programme to assist us in the first two rounds of qualifying, and to Pater Barry of the United Kingdom for his assistance in the CONCACAF Finals in Cancun, Mexico.
The parents of these amazing athletes who have supported the programme, especially those that have travelled to support the team, attended functions, given of their time, finances, assisted with recruiting by getting the word out, and above all believing in the programme, and so much more.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Colin Klass, Noel Adonis, George Rutherford, Vanessa Dickenson, Lawrence ‘Sparrow’ Griffith, Kashif and Shanghai for their belief and support, financially and with guidance and direction.
The media in Guyana and Toronto, Canada for assisting with positive reporting of our achievements.
A special thank you to Kaieteur News Senior Sports Reporter Franklin Wilson and Ron Fanfare – Share in Toronto.
Those businesses in Guyana and Toronto which came on board and assisted us financially and in other ways. Keep an eye out for the Under-20 ‘Lady Jags’ who are determined to surpass the senior team’s accomplishments by going all the way to the World Cup Finals in 2012.
