Bissoon Singh, Roger Harper invited to be involved says Sarjoo
Former Guyana batsman Rohan Sarjoo, the PRO of the Raj Singh led DCB said yesterday that the Court Order restraining Bissoon Singh and his faction from acting, operating, performing or discharging in any manner whatsoever any of the functions, duties, and or obligations of or belonging to the Demerara Cricket Board, effectively paves the way for a single body to administer cricket in Demerara until the full hearing and determination of this matter.
This Order was granted by Justice James Bovell Drakes on Tuesday and Sarjoo said Bissoondyal Singh has been making several public pronouncements on their legitimacy not the least being: meeting with the Sports Minister, meeting and naming sub-committees, registering with the Friendly Societies, displaying a signed petition by 7 Executives of the Guyana Cricket Board, even though 4 of those 7 Executives belong to his faction.
The Raj Singh led DCB has met twice since their election of Office bearers on January 22, 2011and has named their sub-committees.
Sarjoo said that they have formed sub-committees for the Cricket Development, Senior Selection Panel, Junior Selection Panel, Competitions, Marketing and Fundraising sections.
“At its first Executive Committee meeting the Executives also outlined a framework of activities for cricket development, competitions, marketing and fundraising for this year.
Sarjoo informed that the three-day 1st Division final between GCC and New Line Cavaliers was also fixed to be held at Bourda from the February 18-20.
It was also agreed to invite Bissoondyal Singh and Roger Harper to form part of the DCB Executive along with the representatives from the East Coast and Georgetown areas for the other sub-committees such as the Competitions, Senior and Junior Selection panels.
Sarjoo added, between the two Executive Committee meetings, the Board has acquired sponsorships for Under-15 & under-19 competitions scheduled to start shortly.
“Another major sponsor (approx $1.35m) has also agreed to come on board with a new Second Division Club competition for the entire County of Demerara. This would be in addition to the regular Hand-in-Hand 2nd Division Club Competition which would now be played in the second half of the year. Another overseas sponsor out of London has donated a bowling machine which should arrive in Guyana in May,” Sarjoo disclosed.
With the Inter-County to be staged in March, Sarjoo said it was agreed to start their Under-15 competition immediately so as to identify the Demerara team for the Castrol Inter-County tournament.
“The Under 19 Competition will follow immediately after with the Under 17 being held during the summer holidays. An inter ward 20/20 competition would be designed and played countywide as another sponsor has already been identified for this competition which will be used as a pilot project for the inter ward zoning of players for future competitions.
The Board is now pleased that cricket can be played without the confusion of the last few months and re-commits itself to healing the divide that currently exists between the cricket fraternity,” Sarjoo concluded.
