Dear Editor,
It is unbelievable the level of degradedness taking place in our society, and unfortunately, within the state influenced media.
It was drawn to my attention (09-02-11) that the Chronicle Newspapers reported that Mr. Christopher Ram has no moral authority to speak on the matter related to President Jagdeo’s land/house transaction at Prado Ville 2.
Mr. Christopher Ram must be highly complimented for bringing to the public attention an impropriety with respect to the capricious allocation of state lands and property, by no less a person than our Head-of-State – a person who should be an epitome of lofty morality and rectitude. Mr. Ram deserves a high National Award for his courage and bringing some enlightenment to us.
I’m glad that he referred to my situation in the 1970’s – when the PPP published a photo in their newspapers, the Mirror, of land I bought quite properly, while others made a great fuss about the land.
The matter was the subject of a full public and open enquiry by the Ombudsman. Nothing was hidden or suppressed. All the files and evidence proved that I had done no wrong.
Mr. Ram’s letter exposed the depth to which we have sunk with a virtual greedy dictatorship on our hands.
But where are our civic organisations? Do they know that ‘silence gives consent’! Or are they in the dream hypercritical trance, such as the good Bishop, who when I asked him as a leading proponent of morals and Christian principles, what were his thoughts on the sanctity of marriage, and what he would say of a false or fake ‘marriage’ by one of our leaders, came to light, he said, such was a private matter. Different strokes for different folks.
I suppose all of these acts of immorality, greed and breaches of time honoured and age old rules are all private matters, and therefore Christopher Ram and others must shut up.
The time has come for us to encourage others to speak up fearlessly and hope that young and old would see beyond the well funded state media apparatus.
I say to this Government Mr. Ram could not be the issue, he doesn’t occupy high political office nor does he get for himself facilities and perks that are unique it this part of the world.
The Government media and the Chronicle must respond truthfully about the transactions related to Jagdeo’s estate and related issues.
They must respond truthfully about the many contracts which have been questioned, such as the Stanleytown pump, and strange but true, two contractors for one swimming pool.
They must say which part of the world a Head-of-State could fail to discipline members of his cabinet who ‘gun butt a young man’ and knocked down innocent people, or others who are now involve in this latest lap top fiasco.
The Chronicle and the Government information Service must not use diversionary tactics as they tried when one of their cabal sought to have a young man indulge in unethical sexual practices, and the same goes for other instances or when Dr. Jennifer Balkan writes about the contortion within the Forestry Sector.
Finally, when will the State appoint an Ombudsman as is required of the Constitution?
