The suspect involved in the saga of the 10-year-old lad who was sexually molested by his male teacher, is now on the run.
Reports reaching this publication suggest that the teacher, who was placed on bail, has since fled the country to avoid charges. He is said to have gone to Suriname “back track”.
This newspaper understands that alarms were raised when the suspect did not return to the station after his release, as supposed to.
Sources disclosed that police ranks visited the man’s home and neighbourhood in search of him but were unsuccessful in their search.
This newspaper understands that soon after the teacher was released from the Leonora Police Station, his file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice; however, it has not yet been returned to investigators in the matter.
Sources close to the investigation disclosed that the teacher was expected to be charged with indecent assault and was liable to face other charges. He was also scheduled for court some time ago but, all was halted pending the DPP.
The 10-year-old remains at a government institution in the city. The lad, who lived alone, was observed by his teachers bearing numerous marks about the body which he later told investigators were love bite marks on his neck and chest inflicted by an amorous male teacher.
The child’s mother reportedly left him and went into the interior some time ago to cook for porkknockers. His father cannot be located.
This newspaper understands that when the victim went to school the day after the incident occurred his teachers observed numerous marks on his neck and immediately alerted the relevant authorities.
According to a medical inspection, the child had not been physically molested; however, he was in some way, medically affected and had to be hospitalized. The teacher was detained and taken into custody at the Leonora Police Station.
This newspaper understands that the teacher has been at Saraswat Primary, the same school the lad attended, since 1998 and was said to be openly homosexual.
Kaieteur News understands that, the child’s uncle is expected to take full custody of him. However, such has not yet been put into action.
