Dear Editor,
The allocating of a timber concession by the Guyana Forestry Commission to the True Vision Foundation sealed the future of many unemployed youths of South Georgetown, basically Albouystown.
Founder and chairman of True Vision Foundation Mr. Randolph Thorne is sure that about 100 unemployed youths in batches of 50 could benefit from long term employment and be given an opportunity to turn their lives around and break their vicious cycle of poverty.
We are not only cutting down trees; the organisation will also be involved in cropping of organic stuff, including cash crops, peanuts, pine apples and citrus. Charcoal burning will also be our focus so that no wasting of timber resources will be evident especially trees with holes.
Given our organisation’s long desire to proceed in the direction of production of forest products, so as to ease our dependency on government agencies, private sector and our local donors, the organisation is contemplating seeking partnership with donors who have an interest in assisting our community.
Albouystown is an inner-city in South Georgetown where unemployment is at its highest. Most of the unemployed youths are vulnerable, because they lack regular employment. These youths most times are suspects in urban crime. Because of their dilemma, they turn to gambling and drug trafficking as the only option for survival.
Our community also consists of a large number of unemployed female single parents, many of whom are victims of unreliable partners. With the acquisition of this forest concession, the True Vision Foundation firmly holds the view, with our priority being job creation, most of our unemployed youths could empower themselves financially.
Recruitment, training and orientation will be done at the True Vision Training Foundation Complex in Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence. A facility established in honour of His Royal Highness Prince Charles’ visit to Albouystown.
R. Thorne
