18-year-old dies after ingesting poisonous substance

Police at Wakenaam are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 18 year old Nandalall, known as Jewel, of Caria Caria, Essequibo River who ingested a poisonous substance at Wakenaam Island.
The lad worked as a labourer on the island and was well loved by his employers.  After spending sometime on the island he met his reputed wife and lived with her family.  The man who does not drink or smoke purchased the substance from a shop.  He went to a koker where he drank the substance shortly after 18:00 hrs on Wednesday.
His wife who went in search of him saw him sitting on the wall of the koker. She saw when he drank the contents from a bottle.
As she approached, he threw the bottle into the river.  She then sought  assistance.
He was rushed to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital where first aid was rendered.  He was transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital where he succumbed during the night.
A post mortem performed on the body confirmed that the man died from poisoning.
The man’s in-laws and wife  said that they are trying to figure out  what may have led to the well loved young man to commit such an act.
At press time arrangements  were being made for his burial.
