Avon heist suspects to face armed robbery, gun possession charges

The three suspects in Wednesday’s $1M heist at the Beauty and Home System have been positively identified and are likely to appear in court today.
A police official said that the men were picked out from a police lineup yesterday. They are to be charged with robbery under arms and unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
The official said that one of the men was previously charged for a similar offence, but the matter was dismissed.
Police said that Daniel Joseph and two employees were about to enter a car at around noon on Wednesday when the robbers held them at gunpoint.
They relieved Joseph of an envelope containing $1.3M then fled towards Lamaha Street, where a waiting taxi, HB 663, picked them up.
However, ranks from the Tactical Services Unit intercepted the vehicle at Cemetery Road.
It is alleged that the robbers attempted to run away and one of them fired a shot at the police.
Kaieteur News was told that one of the bandits was arrested at his Walker Terrace, La Penitence home. The two other men were also held.
Police recovered the stolen money, along with an unlicenced 9mm pistol and 16 rounds of matching ammunition.
